I'm new to this forum, so bear with me.  In the history I took, our country was founded as a republic.  Can you explain the difference between a democracy and a republic?  Which is better?  Democracy and republic are not synonymous, right?

I think of democracy as goverment of the people by the people.  I am a Democrat because I believe that they have a better understanding of who the people are: us.  The Republicans seem to be unclear about who the people are.  When I listen to their talking points its seems as they are interested only in a certain kind of people.  Democrats seem to be more about inclusion.  America is still a democracy as we have our freedom/liberty supported by the Constitution and our Bill of Rights. However things can change if we forget to exercise or right to vote and censure our elected officials. Earthseed.

I would like to encourage any and all to research who founded and formed America. What were the reasons our forefathers came here and what the first leaders intended. I would recommend watching `A Nation Adrift` by Exploration Television. Prahaps you may understand what was intended for America and realize how far out of whack America truely is. That is a good start.
