How exactly are we going to go about changing our entire system of government? It is a very noble idea, but we the People are losing our rights little by little and as Bill Quinn said, it is the elected officials in Washington that hold all the power. They are the one's who would be required to change our governmental system and they haven't made themselves this powerful just to throw it all back at the wishes of the people who gave them the power in the first place.
In my opinion, it is our responsibility to inform our fellow voters of just how treacherous a position we are in right now, with the Patriot Act jeopardizing our rights to fight and speak out against the injustices we face. As a college student I'm scared to death of the world I imagine myself inheriting in a few years. I see a Russia that is reverting to a path that they have only fairly recently turned from, a communist economy in China that is set to become the most powerful in the world, and a U.S. government that is craving more and more power over (and less and less rights for) its citizens. Forgive me if I'm painting a 1984-ish picture, but when I see my future, I'm surprised to admit that that is one of the scenarios I see.
I think we should start to move away from thinking of politics in terms of parties. I know that is much easier said than done, but it is not impossible and it would solve some of the problems we face with government in today's political scene. We need honest, hardworking men and women in our government who are empathetic with the people they represent and understand the concept of solidarity. However, political parties prevent this because they control so much money. Politics in America should not run on money, that is just undemocratic. Democracy is rule by the People, not rule by money. Moving away from a party system would encourage more people to run for office. Of course the rich would still hold an edge, but a middle class person running against a single rich person is a lot different than against an entire party of rich people. I know this proposal will probably never come to fruition, but we need to talk about things like this and move towards an America in which our freedoms are safe.

As my dad stated, there are people out there who know how to, its a matter of getting everyone together and networking.  Making a plan so that if our worst case scenario happens... we have an out...It is the same as the movie a bugs life... the ants however small stand together and win against the large grasshoppers.  My fear is that too many have there blinders on and not enough will wake up in time.  But those peope will continue sleeping while we are living our nightmare.  Thank God for Democracy Now who is helping us network and while God is blessing the USA let us not forget that the USA should bless GOD!  Some how, someway we will be okay... it will be a lot less frightening though with a plan... This however cannot happen over the internet as it is too closely monitored.  Singlemom scared for her kids...

That's exactly my point, so many people are blind to what is going on solely because our leaders say it is for the common good. I've never been one to have nightmares about anything, but ever since I read Orwell's book, I've had them on a fairly regular basis, I look at the world in a completely different light. This is easily the best site I've found for people to get together and talk about what they see going on, but as Nicole elluded to, that is less than half of the solution, and it is not really private on the internet anymore. Talking and discussing, especially between people who ARE aware that we need change in this country, can only do so much. Action is needed, but with so many people here, it would be difficult to have any semblence of a meeting as I'm sure we all come from different areas of the country and different walks of life. All we can do is seek to inform our friends and neighbors, whomever will listen, and let them know that we should not stand for losing our 4th amendment rights to wire taps, or stand for detainees at Gitmo being held without trial or knowledge of why they are being imprisoned. What happens to one of us should be felt and reacted to by all of us. I don't want to be living in a police state before I've graduated college. I want to have a chance to get out and make a real differnce in this country, not only where I am right now.

Matt, first I want to say thank you! Thank you for being open minded and aware. There are other options to communicating with each other such as snail mail or private emails. But who knows how long that will remain unnoticed. Still though, feel like we have to do something.

Another person was telling me that he was waiting on someone to sue the government due to the "bailout" I don't yet understand where he is comming from but it is worth looking into. Someone who is more deeply involved than I am able to be at the moment may know...

and lastly if this is a day late and a dollar short.... we need to make a plan for survival. Matt is correct in that we need to spread the word to any that will listen, but my advice to all of you is just be careful, some people appear to be on the "in" with what you are telling them and then next thing you know they have talked to someone who still has there blinders on and low and behold all of a sudden you become the "crazy one." Plant seeds in peoples minds, be careful of blinded people. Small seed tell people to visit this site...Just some thoughts ... anyone else have suggestions? I'd love to hear them!

One person I talked to said that there is no way that there are concentration camps here in the USA. She would not even watch one of the many videos that are out there on youtube or even all the results that popped up on a google search. Look it up FEMA camps. She said that no one in there right mind would allow it. She won't even acknowledge it, so how are you going to stop something you don't know exists?

Is not that how Hitler got away with so much for so long? God Bless you my Friends.

Well if anyone is in fact interested in contacting me my email is matt_v_824@hotmail.com, but I feel that nothing we do over the phone or internet is safe, no matter how "private" it may seem. For instance, my friend's dad owns a telephone company near where I live and I was talking with him the other day about stuff like we are discussing here. He told me, and this scares me to death, that about 1 in every 3 phone lines he runs is for GOVERNMENT SURVEILLANCE. Even worse is that he has no power over them doing this, they simply come in and do it, do not have to ask permission, all they have to do is inform him that this is what they are going to do.

In terms of suing over the bailout, there's a lot of fine print that isn't reaching the public about what these scumbags are trying to do here. The more I read about the economic failure the more I can believe it being staged. I'm not saying I think for sure that it was but I think it's possible, especially with all these CEO's getting off with all their money intact and the fact that corporations have basically bought our government. Just read this, http://www.dailykos.com/storyonly/2008/10/17/234132/36/442/634176. It makes me sick that my mom lost 26% of her retirement funds that she had invested in one fell swoop and now their taking her taxes to put even more money in their pockets.

I wish more people would post on here than it seems do because I'm curious about the views of more than just one person...no offense to Nicole :). I watched V for Vendetta today, one of my all time favorites, and god does that movie get my adrenaline going. I see the things that happen in that movie and so much of it is echoed in things we deal with everyday, some of it literally and some of it metaphorically. It's still scary to think that we're very possibly just a few steps away from being in a state like is seen in that movie.

Hey there Matt, No offence taken at all!   I feel the same way about this site, I really wish there were more people who chatted with us.  It is scarry that more people have viewed the "no I do not support Democracy Now" than those who do support it.  Did you know there is also a democra.cynow.org?  There is shows unbiased uncensored news...for now anyway.  My email is ncook535@hotmail.com if anyone wants to email me that is fine I have lots of links to information that was sent to me from my dad who has been studying this longer than I have been alive.  I was able to open anothers eyes today, that is a wonderful feeling.  Take care and God Bless!
