I have been a local politician for the past 8 years and have been involved in government for 20 years. I have concluded we need to bring a purer democracy to all levels of government. We no longer need the old trappings of "republic". The American citizen is literate enough to be able to make his/her own decisions on the issues of rule. With such advances as the internet, retinal scan and fignerprint recognition software, not to mention, DNA confirmation capabilities, we should be able to achieve a democracy where citizens who choose to vote can. There are certainly concerns and obstacles that have to be overcome or improved, but within 10 years we will be at the point where we could have votes on every proposed law and be able to insure the voting system is secure and protected. Demcratic voting on every issue will quickly show that there are not Republicans and Democrats, but rather a plurality and diversity of positions on each issue. There are a tremendous amount of ideas I have on my mind and have been considering launching my own site when I came across yours. I believe the time has come for us to press for democracy. |
